JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s unemployment rate has increased in the second quarter of 2024.
The rate went up by 0.6 of a percentage point to 33.5 percent.
That is compared to 32.9 percent in the first quarter of this year.
Limpopo, the Free State and Eastern Cape were the only provinces that noted a drop in the unemployment rate.
Stats SA says there were 7,4 million women employed in quarter two compared to 9,2 million men employed.
It also notes that the black African unemployment rate has consistently been higher than the national average.
